In an energy update this morning the Wall Sreet Journal says:
‘CHINA DOUBLES DOWN ON COAL DESPITE CLIMATE PLEDGE
China’s government said it would raise the level of power generated from coal by as much as 20% by 2020, despite a pledge to bring down pollution levels, reports Brian Spegele.
In a new five-year plan for electricity released on Monday, the National Energy Administration said it would raise coal-fired power capacity from around 900 gigawatts last year to as high as 1,100 gigawatts by 2020. The roughly 200-gigawatt increase alone is more than the total power capacity of Canada.’
Let me get this right.
The increase in coal fired electricity in China over the next four years will equal the total electrical capacity of Canada.
So, all this carbon tax talk here in Canada and elsewhere just gets wiped out ,and more quite likely, in its green effectiveness , by four years of extra coal use in China.
