The resignation of National Secutity Advisor Michael Flynn is a blow to the new President. He was an early supporter and adviser and hence a key player in formulating foreign policy in the new administration . Troublesome is the fact that it looks like Mr. Flynn was not completely truthful with the President and Vice President in reporting his phone calls with Russian officials. Mr. Flynn admits this in his resignation letter. A permanent replacement looks likely in the next few days. This is important since a co ordinated approach to foreign policy between the State Department andthe White House is essential now.
Of course, such resignations are not new, if troublesome. Obama ‘s first appointments saw Tom Daschle resign for failure to report and pay income taxes accurately and Bill Richardson for certain business dealings in New Mexico.
Let’s hope there is only this one with Trump.
