Trudeau devalues the meaning of citizenship

A self-proclaimed follower of Islamic State pledged her allegiance to the terrorist army in a Toronto courtroom Monday.

It was the second time Rehab Dughmosh told a Canadian courtroom she’s loyal to ISIS, not Canada.

She’s charged with seven offences related to assault, weapons and uttering a death threat, but not with any terrorism crimes.

The 32-year-old woman, believed to be from Syria, was charged by police after witnesses said she attacked people at a Canadian Tire with a golf club and then a long knife.

In court, Dughmosh covered her face with a niqab and spoke in Arabic.

She said she “meant to harm those people” (one employee was hurt but no one was killed) and if released would do it “again and again.”

Dughmosh says she doesn’t recognize or accept Canadian law.

“I reject all counsel here,” Dughmosh said, according to Global TV.

“I only believe in Islamic Sharia law. I would like to revoke my Canadian citizenship that I received. I don’t want to have any allegiance to you,” she told the court through an interpreter.

So not only does this self-described ISIS supporter want to live under Sharia law in Canada, she doesn’t want to be a Canadian citizen.

In fact, it’s unclear if she’s a citizen of Canada to begin with.

She apparently claims to be from Syria, but officials have not yet said when she came to Canada and where she came from.

If Dughmosh is a Syrian refugee, Canada will be unable to deport her for now.

We do not deport people back to dangerous, war-torn countries, regardless of any crimes they commit or are alleged to have committed.

If she’s already a citizen of Canada, it’s now impossible to revoke her citizenship or order her to leave.

Days before Dughmosh’s shocking comments, the Trudeau government passed a law protecting the Canadian citizenship of those convicted of terrorism.

Bill C-6 received royal assent last week, before Parliament recessed for the summer.

It fast-tracks citizenship for newcomers — making it easier to become a Canadian citizen.

The new law eliminates language requirements for many newcomers and cuts the residency requirement to just three years.

Most controversially, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s new law removes the government’s power to revoke Canadian citizenship from foreign-born individuals convicted of terrorism.

Trudeau said during the election he believes a “Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian,” even for dual citizens who try to kill Canadians in the name of jihad.

Ironically, the Trudeau government stripped more citizenships for fraud and misrepresentation in its first year in office than for all cases of revocation in the previous 27 years.

Trudeau apparently thinks we should throw the book at fraudsters, but not terrorists.

Polls suggest Canadians overwhelmingly oppose continued citizenship for terrorists.

Former Calgary MP Devinder Shory introduced a private members’ bill in 2012 to revoke citizenship from those who commit acts of treason and terrorism against Canadians.

He released public opinion data showing eight in ten Canadians agreed.

Even terrorists oppose keeping their citizenship.

ISIS videos have shown young men burning their passports as a symbolic gesture.

So, Canadians don’t want terrorists to have citizenship and terrorists don’t want to have citizenship.

It seems the only people who want terrorists to remain Canadian citizens are the Trudeau Liberals.

Rather than making life harder for terrorists and wannabe jihadists, Trudeau gives them the privilege of citizenship.

That devalues our citizenship and puts our country at risk.
