What killed more than 80% of high-risk vulnerable people in old-aged homes, nursing homes, long-term care homes in Canada in 2020? Was it isolation? Sedatives (midazolam + morphine)? Remdesivir?

Was it DNR orders? or DO NOT treat with needed antibiotics for pneumonia, as in hospitals? Was it abuse, beatings by staff? Was it intubation and forced onto ventilator? poor wages? What? Dehydration?

Dr. Paul Alexander

I argue people did not due due to COVID. No, they may have died ‘with’ COVID but not ‘from’ COVID. The vast majority of deaths happened in 2020 and we must investigate what went wrong and hold people to account.

I argue it was the isolation, the misery, dehydration, malnourishment, the devastatingly poor abusive treatment especially as no one was allowed to visit the vulnerable persons. There were no ‘eyes’ and ‘ears’ on them. I argue COVID revealed the underbelly of a corrupted ‘for profit’ system and showed just how much the care homes, the assisted living homes, long-term facilities and the nursing homes in Canada are in deep crisis and Paul Webster wrote a strong piece in LANCET. I echo his findings and some. What happened, the ‘Killing Fields’ in Canada’s nursing homes during 2020 became a global embarrassment and terror story. It shocked the world. Alike how poorly Canada did in 2002-2003 with SARS-1, what happened in our nursing homes during COVID showed that the structural, systemic gaps and disasters still persist. Across our public health system and medical system in Canada. Among the worst globally.

‘When Canada’s national health data agency reported in June, 2020, that Canada had the worst record among wealthy nations for COVID-19-related deaths in long-term care facilities for older people, many observers referred to it as a “national disgrace”. At that time, as the first wave of COVID-19 in Canada began to subside, its 2039 homes for older people accounted for about 80% of all COVID-19-related deaths.’ After 6 months during the second wave of COVID-19, ‘little has changed, and Canada’s long-term facilities remain dangerously prone to the disease.’

Why?

I outline the key points made by Webster and invite you to comment (note this paper was written during 2020 but there has been no change):

i)The army was called into care homes last spring after COVID-19 outbreaks in Quebec killed 3890 residents and caused large numbers of staff illnesses and absences. Soldiers had to deliver basic services to the residents, while military medics delivered medical care.

ii)Pat Armstrong, a sociologist at York University in Toronto who has studied Canada’s long-term care facilities for almost 30 years, firmly believes that Canada’s dismal record stems from a historical decision to exclude long-term care facilities from Canada’s network of 13 provincial and territorial public health systems. “This has resulted in under-training and poor treatment of workers, substandard and ageing facilities, overcrowding, and poor infection control capabilities”, she says.

iii)Armstrong also argues, on the basis of a weighty body of published research, that a lack of government oversight and accountability to residents, especially in Canada’s privately owned, profit-oriented long-term care facilities—which account for 54% of all facilities—has deeply darkened the picture. “There’s plenty of evidence of lower-quality care in the privately owned facilities”, says Armstrong.

iv)“It was noticed very early on during the COVID-19 pandemic that some of the worst outbreaks were happening in for-profit, privately owned homes”, explains Nathan Stall, a geriatrician at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital, and lead author of a recent study investigating care quality and rates of mortality in 623 Ontario care homes. “When we investigated, we found that they tend to deliver inferior care.”

v)Stall and colleagues found that the incidence of COVID-19 was higher among residents in for-profit facilities than those in other homes. And in facilities with an outbreak, 6·5% of all residents in for-profit facilities died of COVID-19, whereas 5·5% died in non-profit facilities and 1·7% in municipal homes.

vi)Armstrong and Stall both agree that, beyond immediate emergency measures like sending in the army, a set of key reforms are urgently needed in all types of homes. The conditions of work for staff must be dramatically improved, and tens of thousands of new staff must be hired across the country. Overcrowded living conditions for residents must also be dramatically improved, they say, and better infection control and better medical care are also urgently needed.

vii)Don Melady, a Toronto emergency department doctor specializing in geriatric care, recommends that hospital emergency departments work with long-term care facilities and local and regional health authorities to develop plans to cope with outbreaks.

When Patriotism and Religion Fall Whither Goes The Society ?

Here is a new poll out by the Wall Street Journal:

‘Patriotism, religious faith, having children and other priorities that helped define the national character for generations are receding in importance to Americans, a new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll finds.

The survey, conducted with NORC at the University of Chicago, a nonpartisan research organization, also finds the country sharply divided by political party over social trends such as the push for racial diversity in businessesand the use of gender-neutral pronouns.

Some 38% of respondents said patriotism was very important to them, and 39% said religion was very important. That was down sharply from when the Journal first asked the question in 1998, when 70% deemed patriotism to be very important, and 62% said so of religion.

Source: WSJ/NORC poll of 1,019 adults conducted March 1–13, 2023; margin of error +/–4.1 pct. pts. Prior data from WSJ/NBC News telephone polls, most recently of 1,000 adults conducted Aug. 10–14, 2019; margin of error +/–3.1 pct. pts.

The share of Americans who say that having children, involvement in their community and hard work are very important values has also fallen. Tolerance for others, deemed very important by 80% of Americans as recently as four years ago, has fallen to 58% since then.

Bill McInturff, a pollster who worked on a previous Journal survey that measured these attitudes along with NBC News, said that “these differences are so dramatic, it paints a new and surprising portrait of a changing America.’’ He surmised that “perhaps the toll of our political division, Covid and the lowest economic confidence in decades is having a startling effect on our core values.’’

A number of events have shaken and in some ways fractured the nation since the Journal first asked about unifying values, among them the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the financial crisis of 2008 and subsequent economic downturn and the rise of former President Donald Trump

The only priority the Journal tested that has grown in importance in the past quarter-century is money, which was cited as very important by 43% in the new survey, up from 31% in 1998.’

The Scourge of Jewish Self-Division, or The ‘Court Jews’ Are Busy at Work

I have seen these people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people. (Exodus 32:9).

Brother against brother, prophets against a backsliding people, idolatrous kings and priests against these very prophets, and even nation against nation form an indelible part of the Jewish chronicle. The history of the Two Kingdoms provides a continuingly relevant object lesson. After the death of King Solomon, the Israelite communality broke apart into the two warring monarchies of Israel and Judah. The shedding of kinship blood critically weakened the two kingdoms, leading to the conquest of Israel by the Assyrians and the reduction of Judah first by the Chaldeans, then by the Egyptians, and finally by the Babylonians.

https://21c7f2fbc8aa482df85d09603fa0acb3.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html

The Jewish epic across the wilderness of history may be described as divide and be conqueredSurah 59:14 of the Koran tells us something very true about us Jews: “There is much hostility between them: their hearts are divided…” It seems that the wise counsel of Judaism’s great sage Maimonides in the Mishneh Torah has no resonance for the backsliders: “All of Israel and those who are joined to it are to each other like brothers. If brother shows no compassion to brother, who will show compassion to him?”

Who, indeed? We see the sorry spectacle of division acting itself out today in the violent civil protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s efforts to reform a hard-core, self-appointing, Leftist Supreme Court, which regularly thwarts the will of legitimate right-wing governments. It was on this platform that Netanyahu was elected by a massive majority of the vote. But the Left is good at civil disruption. There have been resignations and firings of dissident members of the government and raging animosity against the prime minister for his perceived temerity in trying to overhaul the judicial system and redress a long-festering political sore. The Left is having none of it. Netanyahu’s critics argue that the plan is pushing Israel down a path to autocracy, a path they themselves appear to be treading.

Related: Can Israel Survive?

Similarly, Melanie Phillips remarks that Netanyahu is reacting against the anti-democratic rule of an interventionist judicial activism, a system in which “judges have substituted politics and ideology for law,” superseding duly elected parliaments. Seen from a larger perspective, the demonstrations and irruptions express the principle of “liberal universalism that…would prefer rule by judges” who promulgate universal laws determined by the globalist Left over rule by an elected government administering the laws of the nation. Military and security professional Ben Kerido aptly comments in The Western Standard that “Israeli protests against Netanyahu resemble the American radical Left.” What we are observing, in my estimation, is another manifestation of the Court Jews at work.

The fault line in the Jewish sensibility — however grand in its accomplishments and its many gifts to Western civilization eloquently recounted by Thomas Cahill in The Gifts of the Jews — is tectonic in its dimensions. Perhaps the single most resonant case study in self-division involves the institutional founder of the Christian faith. The story of St. Paul is too well known to require much in the way of comment, yet it is richly instructive. A rabid persecutor of the followers of Jesus, Saul of Tarsus experienced a blinding conversion to the new faith and was shortly thereafter called by the name of Paul (Acts 13:9). He then became the Apostle to the Gentiles, considering his Jewish identity a mere rehearsal for a larger identity and at times expressing strong disapproval of Jews who held to their traditional beliefs and identity. His quarrel with the Desposyni, the “servants of the Lord,” led by James the brother of Jesus, who wished to preserve the purity and exclusivity of the original faith, is a matter of scriptural record.

This history of self-estrangement, political strife, and cultural rupture has been played out from the biblical era through the centuries of religious factionalism and reciprocal ex-communication culminating in our own epoch. The legacy of the celebrated Jewish philosopher Martin Buber and the equally acclaimed Jewish political writer Hannah Arendt, who could never forget their German patrimony and were corrosively suspicious of the Zionist project, has been broadly and unambiguously noxious. In the present moment we observe their offspring, that is, left-wing “peace activists,” liberal rabbis, “post-Zionist” intellectuals, power nabobs, social ingratiators — in other words, Court Jews — who strive to erode the Jewish character of the state of Israel and so deprive it of its legitimacy. The Jewish Left, as it dances around the golden calf of a utopian project, represents perhaps the gravest danger to the survival of the country.

Thus, its adherents pursue their fugitive merit, ignoring the rain clouds until they are drenched and catch pneumonia, as the 19th-century Jewish philosopher Max Nordau put it.

These are the “degraded” Jews whom the great Jewish patriot Vladimir Jabotinsky denounced. They are reminiscent of the spies that Moses sent out to reconnoiter enemy territory, ten of whom on returning compared themselves to frail grasshoppers before the fearsome Anakim and recoiled from their destiny (Numbers 13: 33). They do not understand, in the words of Nurit Greenger, that “Israel is the last station in the Jews’ Via Dolorosa” and that “beyond this station is the Jews’ final crucifixion,” nor do they realize how profoundly they themselves are at risk. They have forgotten that the Jewish sense of security is always a false sense of security, that over the past 2,000 years, as Melvin Konner points out in Unsettled: An Anthropology of the Jews,Jews have been expelled from 94 countries. They do not think to ask themselves why the future should be any different.

Jews do not have the privilege enjoyed by all other peoples in the world, that is, the luxury of hating one another or, for that matter, of hating themselves. Other groups can get away with intramural conflict, the Islamic umma being the chief example of a community that can inflict enormous damage on itself, sundered between Sunni and Shia, nationalists and pan-Arabists, despotic regimes and the equally tyrannical Muslim Brotherhood. Due to its numbers, its domination of the United Nations, its vast oil reserves, and its energy stranglehold on the rest of the planet, it survives robustly and continues to exercise global power. Jews have no such exemption.

Such Jews have given hostages to fortune and rendered their own prosperity and well-being, let alone survival, hypothetical. The universal human prerogative of hating one’s fellow man, whether members of one’s race, ethnicity, or nation, should be anathema to Jews since they of all peoples can least afford it. No less than Cain hated Abel or Jeroboam hated Rehoboam or Paul hated Saul, or the Left hates the Right, or the radical progressivists hate Benjamin Netanyahu, the pathology continues to work its harm or, at the very least, to produce an etiology of dislocation in the self. One thinks of Israeli author Gilad Atzmon asserting in The Wandering Who? his “contempt for the Jew in me.”

I fear that in our ceaseless squabbles and conflicts with one another, we may one day bring about our own demise. It is as if there is something in the Jewish soul that, despite its love of life, paradoxically hungers for its own extinction, as if the very quick of life, of practical wisdom, ethnic solidarity, love of the better part of heritage, faith in the political miracle known as Israel, and the stubborn desire to persist, will often lie dormant.

Under these circumstances, it is hard not to sympathize with the pungent and despairing remark of the Przysucha Hassidic Rebbe, Menachem Mendel of Kotzk, who said of his quarrelsome people, “I could revive the dead, but I have more difficulty reviving the living.”

Western World In Grave Trouble

By Terry Burton

I read a March 24, 2023 article in the Epoch Times by, Brian Giesbrecht, titled Xi’s ‘Clark Kent’ Moment. The article raised many questions, postulations and a myriad of thoughts that warrant further contemplation and investigation.
For example, Giesbrecht asked a very basic question, that is, “

But what is going on here? Why did Xi suddenly involve China in the Middle Eastern hornet nest, and what does he possibly hope to achieve by inserting himself between Zelenskyy and Xi’s ally, Putin”?

Well, the answer seems glaringly obvious to anyone who has even a remote interest in the decline of Western Civilization. Xi is looking to lead and put China first, whilst the Western World (WW) is obsessed with triviality, denying reality, blame focused, becoming more childlike and belligerent whilst others around the world are taking up the Adult Mantle.

Of course, like petulant children the WW throws tantrums, bemoans the lack of gratitude from others, is taken aback by the “other” world that decides to travel a more rational and productive road, are appalled that other countries see the WW as the dysfunctional misfits we are, where hypocrisy reigns supreme, where word salads replace action and where children, posing as adults, are in charge of state matters. What could go wrong, they ask with great cynicism!!!

The WW could benefit immensely by being placed on suicide watch, it is, at least at this juncture, in the self-injury phase of cutting and burning itself. Yes, the WW is suffering immensely whilst attempting to cope, burdened with its emotional pain, sadness, anger and stress, by self-injury.

These WW self-inflicted injuries, although initially not life threatening, has become a major source of infection that, because they have been allowed to fester, is causing life threatening WW sepsis.

One could suspect Xi sees this WW septic condition as an opportunity to advance China’s interests, whilst witnessing how a “progressive” Civilization impales and destroys itself by its addiction to Wokeism.

Xi and China’s motto most likely is, “No need to fight, WW Civilization is in the process of destroying themselves; be patient, be smart, just let them tear themselves apart. We will await the ideal time to pick up the pieces and than control the world stage, all delivered complements of Western hubris, virtue signalling and Wokster rage.

Sadly, the WW body politic is suffering from a high temperature, caused by excessive hubris, and a denial of the disdain in which most of the world holds it.

The WW fails to realize that it is no longer in the vehicle driver’s seat, it is low on fuel and the tank is leaking profusely, the electrical system needs major repair, the transmission needs a major overhaul, the brakes don’t work, the exhaust system is a disaster, the tires are flat and the paint job is rusting badly—-and nobody wants the WW relic, with all of its obvious problems, not even the scrapyard.

This once envied, beautiful, exotic, striking, eye-catching, sophisticated, detailed, fantastic remarkable, fascinating social engineering marvel (the Western World) has been wrecked by overzealous, supercilious, narcissistic, self-centered, indoctrinated, propagandized, bitter, resentful, ignorant and ungrateful passengers—they have, with malice and forethought, wrecked this one of a kind, invaluable vehicle.

These WW ungrateful passengers next trip will be on a dilapidated bus that takes them to the gulag of reality; most of these passengers are soft, entitled, in poor health—both physically and mentally—, uneducated (even though many are graduates of institutions of higher learning), posses a poor work ethic, are constant complainers, and, around the true adult world, despised virtue signallers.

Their future Chinese masters loathe and disrespect these sad passengers, they will not survive long in this new real world and they, not surprisingly, cannot look themselves in the mirror—they are, indeed, the world’s greatest losers.

Again, without intending, I suspect, this article by Brian Giesbrecht raises a tremendous number of observations that warrant highlighting the WW’s is responsible for it ongoing decline.

Quote from the article, “At least that’s how it is being reported in China,” seems to suggest that the Chinese media is manipulating the story in China. Of course, by implication, it seems to imply such media manipulation would be unacceptable and never occur in the WW. Really!!!

This flies in the face of the 100s of cases of WW media manipulation that has occurred and is occurring in their reporting of:

*the Ukraine/Russia war;

*the Chinese and Liberal manipulation of Canadian elections coverup;

*the numerous ethics violations of the Trudeau government;

*the media manipulation of Covid-19 data, mandates and policies;

*the suppressing of the gain-of-function research in Wuhan, that was funded by the USA, coverup;

*the suppressed Hunter Biden laptop coverup;

*the Hilary Clinton and DNC fake dossier coverup;

*the bias media coverage and coverup for Big Pharma;

*the Biden family payoffs coverup;

*the Lolita Express sexual crimes coverup;

*the “suicide” of Jeffery Epstein coverup;

*the ignoring of Joe Biden’s diminished mental capacity;

*the ignoring of the incompetence of Kamala Harris;

*the exploding crime rate in the USA;

*the exploding border crisis in Canada and the USA;

*the Covid-19 Experimental materials injections deaths;

*the stolen CERB billions;

*We Charity “irregularities”;

*SNC “irregularities”;

*the absurd and sham Emergency ACT Inquiry;

*the trucker protest suppression in Canada;

*the USA government breaking and ignoring the Constitution, by its backdoor censorship efforts;

* …………….!!!!!!!

Please be assured neither Xi, Putin, or any other world “despot” is working feverishly and devoting excessive time to destroying the WW and its influence in the world. Sadly, the WW has its own “despots” like Biden, Trudeau, Macron, Scholz, De Croo, Rutte, Albanese, and Ardern doing that and, unfortunately, they are succeeding immensely.

Yes, yes, we may want to blame, in this case, the two (2) horsemen of the apocalypse (Putin and Xi) for the WW demise and diminishing influence in the world but that would be wrong.

The WW is in the process of great and intense self-flagellation and enthusiastically increasing the number of self-inflicted wounds. These injuries are growing in number and size and are driven by WW masochistic hubris and denialism.

The WW has reached a juncture where it is definitely blinded by its own hubris, it is happy, it seems, to live in a fantasy, virtue signalling world where the strategy is to always blame others for the WW decline.

As much as I would like to finger-point and blame the Russians and Chinese, I cannot, in good conscience blame them for:

1. The decline and failure in the WW education system;

2. The decline and failure in the WW medical system;

3. The decline and failure in the WW manufacturing system;

4. The increasing corruption in the WW political system;

5. The increasing corruption and decline in the WW Mainstream Media system;

6. The tremendous deficits and debts being accumulated by the WW political systems;

7. The weakening of the WW military by its increased wokeness and political correctness strategies;

8. The decline and failure of the WW legal system;

9. The decline of religion and its prior positive leadership in the WW;

10. The innumerable and never ending proxy wars being fought by the WW;

11. The destruction of the WW energy sector and the competitive advantage it entails, this due to the new Climate Change religion;

12. The propagandizing and indoctrination of our WW citizenry, especially our youth;

13. The downfall of WW meritocracy and the upswell of quotas and equality of outcome edicts— a math reality outcome that affirms the rush to mediocrity;

14. The absolute failure of the vast majority of WW citizens to be taught, to absorb and acquire the essential beliefs, values, ethics, morals and principles ((BVEMPs) that are essential to strengthening their respective nation;

15. The increasing level of WW destructive narcissism and sociopathic behaviours in the talking heads and entertainment sector of WW society;

16. And the greatest of all factors, the destruction of the nuclear family that effectively removes the father from his essential role in child rearing.

The WW, for all intents and purposes, is awash in a great number of destructive ideological attacks from within. For example, it is under constant attack by a radical, toxic feminist ideology that is actually, and ironically, in the process of destroying that which gave and sustains its life!!

One can assure these radical, toxic WW feminists that when they are bowing their head in compliance and taking a forced knee to totalitarianism, and make no mistake they will be, they won’t be espousing their radical, toxic WW feminist ideology. Rather, they will be subservient, display great cowardice, prostrate themselves before the respective autocrat and enthusiastically lick the boot of their “real” oppressor.

How do we know such will occur? Because, in today’s world the radical, toxic WW feminists will only attack the hand that feeds and provides minimal, if any, risk to them. These radical, toxic WW feminists are conspicuous by their absence in leading the charge in demonstrating in countries like China, Russia, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, North Korea, South Sudan and the other fifty (50) unfree Nations, to “take on such tyrants”!!!

These radical, toxic WW feminists have a yellow steak running down their backs that makes roadway blacktop embarrassed. These are the same WW feminist folks that rant about female genital mutilation (FGM, in those backward third world countries, whilst WW feminists demand young boys and girls be brutalized by gender reassignment surgery (GRS)).

In math terms, most people in these “backward third world countries” are learning the new math equation which states, emphatically and accurately, that Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)=Female Reassignment Surgery (FRS)=Male Reassignment Surgery (MRS)=Gender Reassignment Surgery(GRS)— where Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Reassignment Surgery are interchangeable and equally vacuous and valueless!!

Yes, yes, the radical, toxic WW feminists will lob their vitriol laden and hate filled verbal missives, stand under the protective umbrella of WW Wokeism and attempt to castigate the hundreds of millions of real WW women who don’t want to become men.

That being said, one can be assured that these radical, toxic WW feminists will not be standing toe-to-toe with their oppressed sisters in these “unfree” states. No, no, they will be attending woke parties, teaching racial and gender division at schools and universities, working diligently to shutdown free speech, attacking the imaginary patriarchy, distorting history, complaining incessantly about the shortage of males who want nothing to do with this dysfunctional conglomeration of radical, toxic feminist misfits.

These WW radical, toxic feminists complain incessantly about poverty and inequality whist they sip their daily $7.00 latte, get their monthly $350 haircut, $150 dollar weekly massage, bi-weekly $100 manicure and pedicure, purchase each month their $74.91-$1129.98 per bottle/case of Double Diamond Cabernet Sauvignon, whilst arranging their quarterly/annual spa weekend ($1000.00/day) with the “girls”, and stabbing their female colleague in the back, as they claw their way to the top of the quota driven glass ceiling.

Again, that international “unfree” country demonstration is definitely a bridge too far for these radical, toxic WW feminists,better and much safer to virtue signal from afar and minimize the risk to themselves, whilst accusing WW men of toxic masculinity, white and male privilege, improper pronoun usage, racism, sexism, complaining of pay inequality, destroying meritocracy, resenting others’ success, promoting welfarism, whilst they are demanding and insisting on the acceptance of gender confused men in female sports, washrooms and prisons. They do all of this whilst they work actively to destroy the nuclear family. Yes, make no mistake they are toxic.

They do all of this whilst demanding My Body My Choice be recognized for abortion purposes but were nowhere to be found when Covid-19 mRNA Experimental Injections we’re being forced into people’s bodies— yes, the hypocrisy is crystal clear and very telling.

Yes, in answer to the question, the savage Ukraine/Russia war will stagger on to some distant and muddy conclusion? Because the Western World wants it to stagger on for a myriad of reasons.

Please, the Ukraine/Russia war now serves as a distraction that has been welcomed by the WW. The WW war machine benefits immensely from the war in the Ukraine and the numerous proxy wars, around the world, that the WW was instrumental in creating and/or for which they supply “goods and services”.

Mon Dieu, how would the WW justify replacing its aging armaments, thus the war machine, without firstly “exploding the present supply” in a “faraway” land, “for the cause of democracy and sovereignty.”

How could the WW effectively distract its citizens, from the decline of the WW, without establishing a bogeyman to blame?

How could the WEF successfully implement their strategies and plans without having wars and conflicts to help in distracting WW citizens?

How could inept and dangerous politicians, like Biden and Trudeau, get away with their incompetence, without major distractions being fomented by them and their minions?

Sorry, mis amigos, China and Russia are not the enemies upon which we need to focus, in order to save Western Civilization; we need to accept that the Trojan Horse, which the WW built, put in place and feeds lavishly, firmly resides within Western Civilization and its presence is being hidden by the traitors within, not Xi and Putin.

Our reluctance, refusal, or inability to acknowledge that we are the problem is the WW greatest weakness. To continue to blame, transfer, criticize, condemn, accuse, and hold others responsible for our decline is absurd and counterproductive.

One cannot stop the WW downward spiral into irrelevance, by refusing to accept that our decline is of our own making. We are behaving like children on the international stage; we were gifted with tremendous political, economic, educational, geographic, institutional and governance advantages, however, we have blown such advantages and now want to blame the Nasty Xi and Putin for our self-destruction and ineptness. How pathetic!!!

Yes, whether right or wrong, most of the world views the WW as extremely dysfunctional and weakening at a tremendous pace, untrustworthy, exploiters, hypocrites, sanctimonious, and massive generators of great bovine excrement. The rest of the world  are in the process of “separation” from the WW and, when timely and convenient, they will file the inevitable divorce papers and claim their alimony payments in the form of resource acquisition.

The WW may be in disbelief, deny that such is coming, but always remember, “to the victor goes the spoils”.

Can Israel Survive?

BY DAVID SOLWAY 9:10 PM ON MARCH 25, 2023

Can Israel Survive?
Courtesy of Myra Kahn Adams

It has never been easy for Israel — the understatement of the century — from the moment of its establishment in 1948, when it was invaded by five Arab armies, to the present day, when it is facing multiple threats to its very survival. It suffers a history like no other nation in the world, surrounded by enemies, fighting wars on every front, infiltrated by terrorists, confronting the wetware dreams of genocidal regimes, in particular the prospect of a nuclear Iran sworn to the country’s annihilation, and subject to an international delegitimation campaign carried out via the United Nations, the World Council of Churches, spurious NGOs and “peace” organizations, labor unions, university campuses, and a hostile European Union.

As if this were not enough, there is yet another menace it has to face, deriving from the Cain and Abel paradigm, which has inwardly corroded the Jewish community since the thunderous instant it purportedly received the tablets from Mount Sinai: betrayal from within. The rebellion of Korah, Dathan, and Abiramagainst Moses and his mission to create a unified and cohesive people set the tone for much of what followed in the history of the Jews. The record is inexhaustible: the backsliding tribes and their idolatrous rulers whom the Prophets railed against, the conflict between the brother states of Israel and Judah, the quarreling Jews Josephus tells us about who were in considerable measure responsible for the Roman victory and massacre in the first century A.D., the apostates, “wicked sons,” and Court Jews who have proliferated through the ages, and those who contracted the wasting disease that Ruth Wisse in Jews and Power called “the veneration of political weakness.”

True, the quietest Jews who took refuge in ritual and scripture instilled an attitude of helplessness and defeatism into the plasm of the Jewish sensibility — precisely what the vigorous and determined Palmach fighters and the Zionist kibbutzniks who settled and farmed the land of Israel intended to counteract. They put the debilitating syndrome to rest, struggled valiantly to survive, and built a strong and proud country. However, the renegades and turncoats did, and continue to do, immeasurable harm. The motive for treachery seems to be immemorial. As Wisse writes, “For every Mordecai and Esther who risked their lives to protect fellow Jews, there were schemers who turned betrayal or conversion to profit.” Indeed, “the ubiquitous informer, or moser” is always with us. In the modern age, they beget like rabbits on aphrodisiacs.

But it is not only a question of schemers and betrayers. There are many Jews who have turned against, or disembarrassed themselves of, their own compatriots for ostensibly “noble” reasons, like the Yevsektsiya or European and Russian Jews who joined the Bolsheviks and were instrumental in the formation of the Soviet Communist Party, until they were duly liquidated. Today, these are the Jews who vote Liberal or Democrat, validate the Palestinian faux narrative, practice outreach and dialogue with Islamic antagonists, pride themselves on their pacific and ecumenical ideology — a  “universalist worldview,” writes Daniel Gordis in a poignant Commentary essay, that “does not have a place for enemies” — and celebrate their birthdays in Ramallah bars festooned with “PLO posters advocating the death of Jews.”

Everywhere we look, we see these broken Jews who have embraced left-wing causes, or assimilationist fatuities, or the temptations of social prestige, or the fashionable bromides of the zeitgeist that promise peace and understanding with veritable antisemites in a pluralistic New World Order that exists only in their own febrile and disarrayed minds.

Their behavior is nothing short of scandalous: Reform and Reconstructionist Jews who profess to have as much (or more) in common with Muslims and Buddhists as with their embattled congeners in the Holy Land, espousing the Sabbatarian fiction of multiculturalism; intellectual and political recreants like Noam Chomsky, Norman Finkelstein, Michael Lerner, Neve Gordon, Joel Beinin, Charles Enderlin, Jeremy Ben-Ami, Richard Falk, Richard Goldstone, and the contemptible George Soros, who labor to abolish the Jewish state or change its character unrecognizably, siding impenitently with its adversaries; artistic Jews — I have in mind people like Amos Oz, A.B. Yehoshua, David Grossman, Daniel Barenboim, Aharon Shabtai, and the late Harold Pinter, among innumerable others — who give or gave succor to the enemy; media Jews who open their op-ed pages, both in Israel and America, to Palestinian “negotiators” and avowed terrorists; American Jews who vote for the most anti-Israel presidents and who, as Isi Leibler says, have “adopt[ed] an anti-Israeli chic”; mogul Jews in the entertainment industry who tiptoe around the Islamic fact and have nothing good to say on Israel’s behalf; filmster Jews like Steven Spielberg, Eyal Sivan, Ran Edelist and Amos Gitae, among a multitudinous crew of pan-and-zoom Israel bashers, who can always be counted on to impugn the nation’s character or justify the Palestinians; and the endlessly ramifying Jewish anti-Zionist and post-Zionist organizations in Israel and the West that accuse the Jewish state of insensate aggression, or immorality, or original sin, or illegitimacy, ad nauseam. As I wrote in Hear, O Israel!, it is almost as if there is something in the Jewish psyche that breeds sinat chinam, or baseless hatred, in the midst of an historic kinship.

These individuals and groups comprise a host of Joseph’s Brothers who go about their business selling Israel out and, although they may not know it, are quite plausibly arranging for their own eventual misery. As Rabbi David Algaze of Havurat Yisrael said of Tony Kushner, the Jewish playwright who believes Israel was a mistake and falsely accuses it of engaging in “the deliberate destruction of Palestinian culture,” he is “ignoring history and history will come back to haunt him.”

The issue we are broaching is not only whether Israel can survive its obvious enemies both in the Islamic world and in the West. The same applies to its nominal friends — an Obama, a Biden, even Reagan — who claim to have Israel’s back and to defend it against its enemies while acting to weaken the state, justifying their actions as “tough love.” The fact is, sometimes my enemy’s enemy is my…enemy. But the crucial issue is whether Israel can survive its own. For Israel may not win if it is constantly maligned and attacked by a swelling fifth column of fellow Jews who may bring the same fate upon the nation as it suffered in Biblical and Roman times. The Assyrians and Babylonians and Romans of yore have not gone away; they have merely transmuted into contemporary forms.

If Israel is to survive it must be defended, or at the very least not undermined, by its ethnic compatriots in the diaspora and the influential cadre of its fractious and deluded left-oriented Israeli citizens. It must, as a minimal condition, be allowed to fight its wars in peace.

Alvin Bragg’s Whirlwind

Imagine a new Trump Justice Department if politicians are fair game for prosecution.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg may be thinking an indictment of Donald Trump would land him in the history books. It very well may, just not in the way the left hopes. History would record the ensuing whirlwind.

The country sits in an absurd suspended animation, waiting to see if a local prosecutor cajoles a municipal grand jury into indicting a former U.S. president—one currently running for the White House again. This would be a monumental and unprecedented step, with consequences sure to reverberate far beyond the unique fate of Mr. Trump. That’s why it’s never happened before. Every prosecutor in American history—up to now—understood the national risk of crossing that Rubicon.

The scandal is that Mr. Bragg looks set not only to splash in, but to do so with the most pathetic of legal arguments. This isn’t a case about classified documents or the transfer or power. If reports are accurate, Mr. Bragg wants to jail a former president over the heading on a long-ago business payment. The feebleness of the charge deserves scrutiny.

At issue is a $130,000 “hush money” payment made by former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen in 2016 to an alleged former Trump mistress. Mr. Cohen initially said he wasn’t reimbursed for the payment—then reversed himself and told federal prosecutors he was, and that the Trump Organization labeled the reimbursement “legal expenses.” Mr. Bragg apparently wants to charge Mr. Trump with falsifying business records. Only, that’s a mere misdemeanor in New York—and moot, given a two-year statute of limitations.

The prosecutor is therefore straining to morph this into a felony, by levying a charge of falsification in aid of another crime. This requires hinging that charge on yet another one—a claim the Trump Organization payment somehow broke campaign-finance laws. Criminal prosecutions of campaign-finance laws are rare, in part because the law is so convoluted. How convoluted? Consider: A federal grand jury in 2011 handed up an indictment of former 2008 Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards for using campaign donations to hush up a mistress, while Mr. Bragg now wants to indict Mr. Trump for not using campaign donations for the same purpose.

To add to the legal stretch, even the felony rap has a five-year statute of limitations, which is now expired for the Cohen payments. That will presumably require Mr. Bragg to conjure up some loophole. Mr. Cohen is a convicted perjurer, and federal prosecutors declined to act on this same case. And while Mr. Bragg might get his grand jury to indict this ham sandwich, he’ll still have to convince a judge and a unanimous jury that his charge based on a charge based on a charge—all based on the claims of a felon—somehow fly.

For this we are going to throw out the high bar against political prosecutions? Because if Mr. Bragg acts, the precedent will be set. America will officially become a country—like Bolivia or the Philippines—where prosecutors of one political party arrest leaders of a rival political party. Put aside just how humiliating this is for the U.S. on the world stage—we look like a rabble. The bigger question will be what comes next.

For every left-wing Democratic prosecutor in the country, there is an equally ambitious Republican one. Democrats make a mistake in continuing to think that GOP officials will always take a higher road. Is there enough evidence out there for some enterprising backwater conservative prosecutor to bring charges against players in the Biden family business, or to dream up charges against other sitting Democrats or up-and-coming progressive pols? Going by Mr. Bragg’s low standards, you bet.

And since we live in the realm of unimaginable, let’s imagine for a moment that Mr. Trump not only beats any rap but uses the attention to reclaim the presidency. One notable contrast to the New York prosecutor was Mr. Trump’s Justice Department, where former Attorney General Bill Barr and special counsel John Durham (who still serves in that role) exercised prosecutorial discretion. They weathered furious backlash for refusing to cave in to Trump supporters’ demands that they stretch legal boundaries with cases against the likes of former FBI Director James Comey or Hillary Clinton campaign officials.

But don’t count on a second Trump presidency attracting that type of official again. The targeted president may think it only fitting to stack the Justice Department with officials who play as rough as and as dirty as Mr. Bragg. Once a country declares political figures fair game for any old prosecution, it’s a short hop to leaders’ using their powers not only against the opposition but against dissenters within their own political ranks.

This is the kind of future Mr. Bragg seems willing to usher in. Democrats and the media can continue pretending otherwise, hoarsely shouting “no one is above the law.” But it doesn’t change the reality of the fallout. Or that Americans are getting sick of this circus.

You Can’t Cancel Me, I Quit

I was supposed to speak at Furman University. I decided to beg off rather than indulge an angry mob.

I was scheduled to give a speech on Monday at Furman University about my recent book, “Primal Screams: How the Sexual Revolution Created Identity Politics.” I canceled it. Here’s why.

In the spring of 2014—in retrospect, the dress rehearsal for cancel culture—some commencement speakers around the country were disinvited or withdrew themselves from consideration owing to left-wing protests. I wasn’t among them. A few faculty members at Seton Hall University tried to have my invitation rescinded on the grounds that I wasn’t what they meant by “Catholic”—progressive. They failed. I delivered my address as scheduled at New Jersey’s Meadowlands Arena to some 6,000 graduates, families and friends, and was awarded an honorary doctorate in humane letters.

It was a thrilling event. I enjoy talking to students. I teach graduate students and young professionals, and I founded an organization that helps mentor hundreds of women involved in journalism and media, many of them right out of college. Those experiences probably explain why I had never been the object of protest by students.

But 2023 is light years from 2014. Some months ago, the head of Furman’s Tocqueville Program invited me to give a public lecture about “Primal Screams.” Not knowing a soul there, I googled. Nestled in scenic Greenville, S.C., the university was founded in 1826 by the Southern Baptist Convention. Furman’s website features young people said to be “innovative in their thinking, and compassionate in their approach to career, community, and life.” The Tocqueville Program has hosted impressive speakers. This seemed a promising opportunity to visit an attractive campus, befriend some students and faculty, and talk over ideas. What could go wrong?

Well, consider what happened to the speaker who preceded me last month in the same series: Scott Yenor, a professor of political science at Boise State University.

Mr. Yenor had been invited to speak on “Dostoevsky and Conscience.” An inhospitality committee sprang into action, “triggered” not by his speech topic but by opinions that he had expressed elsewhere, including his critique of feminism and support for “sex-role realism.” Scores of faculty and student protesters “silently” objected inside and outside as he spoke. Three armed policemen were assigned to his protection. Within the auditorium, protesters lined the walls the professor had to pass, holding posters with ad hominem slogans and quotations of his taken out of context, staring balefully at him throughout.

I called Mr. Yenor to ask for his take. “Never in my life have I experienced a crowd so uninterested in learning, and so unwilling to hear,” he said. “They were simply filled with malice.” No one in the administration commented on his treatment, much less apologized for it.

Soon after, something called the Cultural Life Program at Furman, which requires students to attend a certain number of public speeches, mysteriously decided to deny credit for mine unless the program inserted a different faculty interlocuter rather than the one who had invited me—presumably because the latter would have been too supportive. An article was posted by the independent online student newspaper, the Paladin, attacking the Tocqueville Program, applauding the public abomination of Scott Yenor, darkly noting that Catholics had been invited as speakers, and taking potshots at me. There’s no evidence that the indignant writer had read my books or even knew their titles. The piece accused me of perpetuating “dangerous” (dog whistle) myths, adding that students “demand to interrogate” (another whistle) the Tocqueville Program.

Posters advertising my speech disappeared en masse around campus the week before the event. They were replaced and disappeared again. Furman community members following social media and conversations on campus relayed independently that the protest was expected to be “substantial,” as two put it. They also informed me about a letter that was sent by some students to the Cultural Life Program’s committee, caricaturing my work and calling me names in an effort to revoke credit for attending my speech.

As I mulled what to do about such unexpected hostility, different calculations came to mind. What might be the odds of an ugly Yenor-style experience? Likely high.

What about the odds of physical injury? Low, but not nonexistent. In 2017 students at Vermont’s Middlebury College attacked Prof. Allison Stanger, sending her to the hospital, after she hosted a talk by Charles Murray. Bystanders have been injured during other recent campus brawls, like the March 14 protest of a Charlie Kirk speech at the University of California, Davis that left an officer injured. In 2021 the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education polled 37,000 students at 159 campuses; 23% said they believe violence is justified against unwanted speech. Not all students think sending campus guests to the emergency room is good form—but 1 in 4?

In the end, it was a different thought that led me to pull the plug. As Liel Leibovitz put it recently in First Things, “The terrible power our pursuers hold over us, the power of intimidation and of setting the terms of the debate, dissolves the moment you realize you’re free to disengage.” To which I add: Bullies have a right to protest, but that right doesn’t extend to dragooning others into untruths—including the untruth that people who join a hateful mob have any intention of listening to a speaker in the first place. They don’t, and the rest of us are under no obligation to help them live that lie by playing along.

To the students who did want to hear my speech: I’m sorry to miss you. On a positive note, it’s better to read than to watch. Copies of “Primal Screams” have been sent to every student in Furman’s Tocqueville Program, and two dozen more will be available this week for whoever wants them—delivered care of the university president’s office, since social-media mobs lack mailing addresses.

The book makes the case that social upheavals since the 1960s have led to compounded fractures on generations and that the implosion of family, real-life community and religion has weakened many people’s sense of identity. It further argues that the rise in mental and emotional problems, increasingly visible on campuses and on the streets, is a result. The students revulsed by free speech these days aren’t victims of that analysis but poster children for it.

Manitoba Couple Sues AstraZeneca Canada

CBC News reported:

A Manitoba family is suing AstraZeneca Canada, alleging their son had a stroke following his COVID-19 vaccination that has left him unable to work or care for himself. Jackson Troy Reimer, now 23, was “in excellent health” before getting vaccinated while working at the Whistler Blackcomb ski resort in British Columbia in 2021, according to a statement of claim filed in Manitoba’s Court of King’s Bench on March 16.

But six days after getting his shot, he started feeling dizzy, losing his vision and having severe headaches. A CT scan at Vancouver General Hospital found Reimer had a hemorrhagic stroke, the lawsuit says.

He later needed two platelet infusions, then underwent a craniotomy to stop bleeding in his brain and had to be intubated after becoming unresponsive — all outcomes Reimer and his parents, Marina Dawn Toews Reimer and Perry John Reimer, believe were caused by the vaccine.

Since March 2021, Reimer has been unable to hold gainful employment, advance his university education or carry out many activities of daily living, the court filing says. He’s now legally blind and has other symptoms related to mental focus and concentration, memory loss, mental impairment and obsessive-compulsive disorder tendencies, according to the claim.

The COVID Vaccine King on Biden World’s Nerves

Politico reported:

The White House’s relationship with Moderna has deteriorated dramatically over the last two years, marring what should have been one of the most successful public-private partnerships in U.S. history, four people with knowledge of the matter told West Wing Playbook.

At the center of the White House’s disputes with Moderna is a disagreement over how indebted the company should be to the government for the help it got in developing the COVID vaccine. Moderna received an estimated $1.7 billion in federal funds to accelerate the creation of its initial shot. The resulting vaccine offered the U.S. a path out of the pandemic — and represented Moderna’s first and only working product.

The company has since recorded more than $36 billion in sales. Bancel’s own net worth is estimated at $4.7 billion.

Yet despite the government’s investment, Biden officials say Moderna has barely reciprocated in kind. In one episode in 2021, after the president vowed to make the U.S. an “arsenal of vaccines” for the world, Moderna resisted repeated overtures to commit additional doses to help lower-income countries. The administration eventually went public with the battle.

Many CDC Blunders Exaggerated Severity of COVID: Study

The Epoch Times reported:

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) made at least 25 statistical or numerical errors during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the overwhelming majority exaggerated the severity of the pandemic, according to a new study.

Researchers who have been tracking CDC errors compiled 25 instances where the agency offered demonstrably false information. For each instance, they analyzed whether the error exaggerated or downplayed the severity of COVID-19. Of the 25 instances, 20 exaggerated the severity, the researchers reported in the study, which was published ahead of peer review on March 23.

“The CDC has expressed significant concern about COVID-19 misinformation. In order for the CDC to be a credible source of information, they must improve the accuracy of the data they provide,” the authors wrote.

Most of the errors were about COVID-19’s impact on children. In mid-2021, for instance, the CDC claimed that 4% of the deaths attributed to COVID-19 were kids. The actual percentage was 0.04%. The CDC eventually corrected the misinformation, months after being alerted to the issue.
