‘“About a week after the U.S. and other Western countries froze funding to a U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees called Unrwa in late January, its top official flew to the Arab Gulf, hoping wealthy Arab monarchies would save the organization at a time when it is the main provider of humanitarian aidin Gaza.
The effort came up lacking. Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency, raised $85 million from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates for 2024, far short of the funding lost when the U.S. and others cut off aid following allegations that at least a dozen agency employees took part in the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel. Last year, the U.S. alone gave the agency more than $422 million.
The cash that Lazzarini has scrambled to pull together so far is enough to cover Unrwa’s expenses through May, agency officials say. Beyond then, without new funds, Unrwa says it will be forced to scale back its humanitarian activities in Gaza, which include feeding and sheltering over a million people. Other U.N. agencies and charity groups rely heavily on Unrwa, with some 3,000 of its employees within the enclave overseeing most aid distribution and primary healthcare.”

TOTALITARIAN DEATH CULTS, both ancient and modern are a multi-millennia old issue that can be resolved by simple dissemination and awareness. Something that could and ought be part of a secondary school social studies curriculum. Controversial in this day and age but not very hard to comprehend and to disseminate.
MODERN PLATONISTS (as in those who have been conditioned into Plato’s dual-reality metaphysics and faith based epistemology) hate the real world. They consider it less real than the “really real reality” existing in their own mind. Platonists deny their own senses in favour of wishes. They can be secular or supernatural. They deny, evade, fabricate reality to escape (commit suicide taking along any victims they can).
Platonists don’t even know they’re Platonist. To them, knowledge is gained either by faith (whacky right), or by consensus group think (whacky left). Whacky because both short circuit the use of their own senses and their own mind (our only means of survival in this real world).
Similar to todays religious Conservatives, Plato was confronted by the whim worshipping tribal group-think hedonists of his day. Tragically, he failed and became one of them populating a perfectly rational philosophical system with mysticism. Mysticism easily radicalized into a host of totalitarian death cults that dominate our cultures to this day rendering us all vulnerable to apathy and hopelessness.
The main counter to Plato was his own student (Aristotle). The latter topic much more complex to study and interpret because Aristotle’s ideas evolved dramatically, and only a small fraction of his work has ever been recovered (mostly students notes). Aristotle is the actual “light of the world”, and was a major influence to Western (not Eastern) Christendom.
